A Message From John Clark

Dear NABET-CWA Member:

I am pleased and excited to inform you about a significant new training benefit your Union is making available to its membership.

These days, technological changes in our industry come at an ever-increasing rate. The industry created by these changes requires a workforce that has to be knowledgeable, adaptable, flexible and hungry to perfect the skills necessary to survive in a constantly evolving work environment. To survive in such a climate, workers must have the dedication and fortitude to insure that their skills remain on the cutting edge of the new technologies. And the key to that survival is training.

Over the last several years, NABET-CWA Locals 11 and 16, along with Local 1212 of the IBEW, have put together an impressive program to make training opportunities available to their memberships. The program is called "BURST" (for "Broadcast Unions' Resource for Specialized Training"). Working with vendors such as CompUSA and Adobe, BURST has arranged training seminars in New York City, and has been able to leverage reduced-rate training classes on various technological subjects, including non-linear editing, which have helped hundreds of NABET-CWA members to obtain valuable career-enhancing training at a low cost.

Now, the Sector's Taskforce on Technology and Training is making the benefits of BURST available to the entire NABET-CWA membership as an important career-building tool. This program will give NABET-CWA members across the country access to free or steeply discounted broadcast technology training conducted by CompUSA and/or the world's leading technological vendors. In addition, if there is sufficient interest, the courses may include training in certain other industry disciplines, such as writing and producing.

I urge you to take advantage of the training opportunities this new program will present. I believe it gives you, our membership, a valuable benefit that can help you to grow professionally and attain a more secure future in the broadcast industry.

Fraternally,

John S. Clark
